What do Christians believe?

At the heart of the Christian faith is the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus lived around 2000 years ago in the area of the world we now call Israel and Palestine. He gathered people around him and taught them about God. He was executed by crucifixion. This much is established historical fact.

Christians believe that Jesus was not simply an ordinary human being, he was also the Son of God – someone who shows us in human form what God is like. This is why, at Christmas, we call him ‘Emmanuel’, which means ‘God is with us’. At Christmas we celebrate that in Jesus, God walked and lived among ordinary people.

At Easter we celebrate our belief that not only did Jesus die, he was raised to life by God three days later.
